Two injured in Carbondale traffic crash

CARBONDALE, IL. (WJPF) – Two women were injured in a two vehicle traffic accident in Carbondale.

It happened around 2:50 PM Thursday on Eastbound Route 13 near the intersection of Cedarview Street.

Police say that 50-year-old Jane Winther, of Iowa, was in the center of three lanes when she merged into the left lane, not seeing the other car in her blind spot.

The two vehicles side-swiped each other. The impact cause the second car driven by 38-year-old Bertha Humm, of De Soto, off the road and then to hit a utility pole. The crash broke the pole, but it remained standing, hanging by the wires.

Both Humm and passenger in her car, 20-year-old Alexandria Hartwick of Carterville, were taken to the hospital for the treatment of their injuries.

Winther was uninjured.
