Rauner administration unveils plan for Quincy Veteran’s Home

Governor Bruce Rauner’s office is unveiling a three-part plan for dealing with the Legionella outbreak at the Quincy Veteran’s Home.

The governor says they will continue making improvements and following safety guidelines at the current home.

They also want to purchase a nearby vacant nursing home to temporarily house residents.

That building reportedly has a more modern plumbing system, reducing the risk of legionella bacteria growth. He says the ultimate goal is to build a new, state of the art facility on the quincy campus.

Thirteen residents have died related to legionnaire’s disease since 2015.
