Bills introduced to take advantage of federal tax overhaul

A suburban state lawmaker is introducing a package of bills that he says will help Illinois take advantage of federal tax reforms.

The federal reforms allow parents to now use 529 college savings accounts for elementary and high school expenses. Republican Representative peter Breen says the state should follow suit.

Additionally, Breen wants to make sure business owners without any staff don’t have to pay unemployment insurance on themselves. He’s also pushing to expand the new “Invest in Kids” tax credit program to include donations to public school foundations.
